I never sold a picture of a potato!

Guess what this potato picture sold for?

I don't get it, though it is a very well lit potato.

The guy that bought it must have been a real potato-head. A rich one at that.

Proof that when you have absurd amounts of money, you can spend it on absurd things...

This belongs in challenge suggestions.

What do you think I should ask for this?

Well as far as potatoes go that picture is extremely extremely boring. But then again what picture of a potato could be interesting I'm not sure maybe the guy who bought it was hungry at the time!!

Sheesh, this should then be in the Smithsonian, you can't sell a national treasure!

According to the article the sale was "brokered over a few glasses of wine". I guess he'd had a few too many.

Too fancy?

Just more proof that art as a commodity has less to do with the object in question and everything to do with scarcity and the need to have it when no one else does. Take enough expensive portraits while showing your other work and telling people that, "I'm sorry, that's only for my personal collection", and they all want to be the first to have something no one else can. And when you have more money than you can possibly spend what you pay to eventually get that thing matters not - it's about the status of having.

So for any of us who have given a print away or put stuff out on Flickr, we're already rubes. ;)

Kevin Abosch has an excellent grasp of "artist speak."

That cute little 'spud' in GeneralE's link would probably prefer to be replaced by This Potato Challenge link. :)

Indeed -- the cut-paste function on my computer too often misbehaves ... at least my post comports with the thread title ... :-)

It looks like a cat. That adds value.

Or detracts, if you're a dog person. Controversy=good. Add another million to the tag.
