Description: Move your camera during your shot to create an interesting effect.

Similar to Camera Blur/Motion Blur

I like this and I like your description (a lot) but without the similarity. The effect would not have to be blur (necessarily) so maybe best left unsaid.

Yep, I agree. Camera movement creates interesting results, blur is only one of them.

[eta]But too much skill & it looks like no camera movement, which only encourages the DNMC voters.

I personally don't like this type of challenges.

Stick with the original - camera movement ( or better still intentional camera movement) motion blur is a bit different

Something like this?

Yes please.

great idea!

I personally don't like this type of challenge. I teach beginning photographers techniques to keep their cameras motionless. It's a foundation of good photography. I understand the interest in producing an artistic effect, but camera shake is counter to basic fundamentals. It would be preferable to offer a challenge emphasizing good focus, appropriate depth-of-field and/or zero blur... because those results require acquired techniques. But, it doesn't matter anymore.

Yes, please.

Learning to keep your camera steady, get good focus, have an appropriate depth-of-field, etc. is all good. However, but I think panning is a great application of camera movement, and a technique every photographer should acquire. I like a good panned shot.

I agree. A panned shot can very effective and interesting. And, I would strongly support a challenge topic for motion panning. It's been 5 years since the last.

Motion panning is also a nice idea. It is distinct from this suggestion, though, although not completely independent.

I'd say there will be a higher likelihood of it coming up if you make a new thread about it, Hahn!

Right, but this suggestion is not for motion panning. Janine's suggestion is for camera movement and that is a different technique altogether

Well, camera shake is quite different from motion panning. Motion panning IS camera movement. Camera shake is chaos.

I would classify panning as a subset of camera movement, and a legit technique for a Camera Movement challenge.

Nobody is suggesting or talking about camera shake. Think of camera motion as a little pan. Sometimes combined with a little rotation. Like Tai Chi with a camera. Also, if the camera is in/on a moving vehicle, you have camera motion at high speed. Camera motion results are predictable, with a little twist of the unexpected, which makes it fun & slightly addictive.

Agreed - my hasty response is not clearly worded. Motion panning is a subset of ICM (Intentional camera movement), but othe ICM techniques are not a subset of motion panning. My point being, that Janine was suggesting the camera movement which Is a broader topic
