I'd love to know what actually is happening there from Getty's POV. Taking what the article says at face value, how does Getty justify it? On the surface of it, they sound awfully predatory, maybe on the same sort of level as people who file "retroactive patents" and then go after the inventors...

Would love to hear Getty's "side of it", but this doesn't seem very explainable...

If she had some sort of contract with Getty before undertaking this project, that might be exploiting that?

The content in question has been part of the public domain for many years.
