Take a photo of two people.

Reverse/trade their faces from one to the other.

Extended Editing.

This made me laugh. While I am hoping for a theme in which I could enter a landscape, I would shoot for this.

Does it have to be people?

Yup.

You don't have to know them. Go shoot some street stuff...

You can shoot several shots of them... to get the bodies and faces angles right...

Then, swap them.

This will not end well. (Mostly because my Photoshop skillz are low. But you only learn by trying.) Fantastic challenge idea!

My only complaint with this idea is one I've hesitated to express before: is this about photography or is this about graphics design? I am always blown away by works by some of you such as Gyaban, but sometimes I wonder what it really has to do with photography. I'm actually pretty good with PS as I professionally edited photos for five years, but I come here for good photography and the constructive criticism I read on here(mostly of others photos...).

You make an interesting point. Everyone's definition of photography is a bit varied, and it is good if DPC can offer some challenges that appeal to folks all along that spectrum. The nice thing about having six or eight challenges open at any given time, if a topic comes up that is not your thing you've got several others to choose from. Hopefully, at least one or two will inspire you.

You are correct about the purity of "photography" vs PS graphic design, especially in the whimsical fantasies of Gyaban. To this I would say, art exists not for the purists, but for those pushing limits. Secondly, one thing that "saves" Christophe is that the photography within his undoubtedly over-doctored works is actually top notch in its own right, coupled with the fact that he is indefatiguably with the incorporation of the photography he incorporates.

I will NEVER understand this "purist" talk. Why don't YOU open your mind and think about "freedom of expression" ? Whatever the medium!

Some people are in various stages of enlightenment. But in the defense of the so called "purist" - there has to be some sort of line- for instance, music. Music isn't photography, It's not even a visual art, and would be well deserving of a DQ, even in a free study- but the lines in between are blurred.

Photographers have been making composite images and other forms of "trick" photographs virtually since the invention of the medium. It is NOT something which came along when Photoshop was released -- that just made it (far) easier to do ...

In Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" some of the shots (e.g. on the control deck of the ship on the way to the moon) are made up of as many as 27 separate images composited optically using masks.

I think you misunderstood my post to be some kind of trolling rant... I really meant no disrespect by my comment, I'm no "purist". My mind is open, I thoroughly enjoy Gyaban's creations. I thought my comment was respectful and brought up a question I've had for some time. I think it's valid, where is the line between "photography" and "design".

Also, marnet, I hope I read more acidity into your comment than was intended. For you to tell me to "open [my] mind and think about freedom of expression", sounds an awful lot like you are not pleased with the way I'm expressing myself. Maybe you don't count the written word as a valid medium of expression.

Oh no. Please no. Why not just fabricate this and enter it in the monthly Extended Free Study? My average vote given has been falling more than I like recently and this won't help it. :-}

how about challenge where you swap a minimal challenge with one that as expert edited. Might keep some of the voters awake.

This is very true and been expressed many times, for some reason folks refuse to believe or recognise it as fact.
But in fact I have just been enjoying watching four members of our Royal Family arrive at a railway station so anything is possible.
