I have just purchaed a new Canon EOS 1D Mark II 8.2 and a set of v400 Novatron strobes. I am having a hard time getting the camera to talk to the lights. Is there anyone out there who can give me a little advice on where to start. The shadows are killing me and the range is way too low. It seems as though I have no play. If anyone out there can lend a hand I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks All!!!

I don't know about Canon, but my D100 has a custom setting that needs to be changed to "Manual Flash Mode" in order for strobes to sync with the camera.
Try lloking in the manual for a setting that changes that.
It's a start?

You need to adjust the strobes manually. The strobes don't support Canon's E-TTL flash metering.

Your Mark II manual should have info on using external flash units.

Thank you Eric! I tried that right off the bat and I think that's why I'm so frustrated! I have done everything that little instruction book has told me to do to no avail. It is a bit of a bitty book for such an advanced system. I tried going to Canon direct but I haven't received any feedback. Thanks again for the advice!!!

I suspect it might be a 1-D-10-T error, or maybe a PECI problem.

Hi, I'd love to help but I'm not quite sure what the specific problem is. Is the flash firing when it's supposed to? if so, what mode is your camera set to when you take the picture? Are you using a flash meter or the histogram?
