Hi Steve, first off welcome to DPC, you will learn a ton here. There are also many Canon shooters here who are bound to chime in soon. I shoot Nikon myself, but did so only after trying out Canon for a bit as my ex-bf shot Canon. Canon suited him perfectly because he liked the bigger camera body size and the weight. For that same reason size and weight, and I am not a teeny little girl - put me off of Canon and pushed me towards the more compact and so-called *plasticky* Nikon brand. Which is much lighter overall and easier on the wrists.
So if weight is an issue for you then maybe Canon may be a bit much. In terms of lenses, you will probably want an 18-200 f2.8 for wildlife, as a very basic lens. A teleconverter may come in handy too, it doesn't sound like you want a 500mm f.4....that thing weights 8.5lbs!!! My ex was able to shoot it handheld but he was also quite strong. I think some users have the third party Sigma lens, aka the 'Bigma', which I think is 150-500mm. Other low light lenses, well, I'll let the Canoneers chime in and take over from here.
ETA: Uhm, Steve, I am little confused...people are responding to a thread you posted about which camera to buy, yet on the same day you started this thread saying that you had already bought a Canon and now want to upgrade...just seems a bit odd.
