I loved my Nikon camera, we spent a lot of time together and we were sooo happy. But now I started losing interest in her, she was alone and I started to meet other "friends". And then I met her, the Sony A7RIII. She is so fast, she is reliable, she has double... slot. Well, I finally ended up loving her.

Jokes apart: I was tired of having a double camera system and Sony offers me more than Nikon, much more.

That's why I finally decided to get rid of the old Nikon D750. Sad in some way, but incredibly happy to use the new camera.

Man, that really a MOVE :D

What about the lenses that you have that works with Nikon only? I have lot of investment in Canon and moving away from Canon is losing all. I did read all great things about Sony and at one point did thing but then dropped the idea as the overall loss moving away from Canon.

As a Canon user, the whole process would be easier for you. There are a couple of adapters that allow you to keep a pretty decent camera AF (not as the native one, but still quite good). As for the stabilization, it is in the body so it can work alone (with stabilized Sony lenses is even better - I used a 100-400 with my A7SII and at 400mm I was able to shoot an incredibly stable handheld video).

You might want to update your profile (still shows the Nikon as your primary camera) ... hope the change works out for you!

I still have it. I'm selling the camera and some lenses. I hope I will be able to update my profile before the end of the week!

First I will sell 24-70 Tamron and get the Sony 24-70GM. I will keep some lenses and use them manually. I will slowly change all the stuff

Wow. That must have been some mistress!!!

I totally understand the decision, so many benefits now for shooting mirrorless, I am even thinking about selling the Leica SL as it is quite heavy to lug around with me. I am beginning to enjoy outdoor landscapes and trekking, something I could never do before having to lug around a backpack full of stuff. With the Leica Q I get FF sensor with a Summilux 28mm on the front sealed, light, don't even know it's there honestly, and now with the CL being even smaller and able to handle M lenses as well as having some very decent zooms available now that weight very little compared to what I used to carry.

Well done Alex

Just to let you know, don't get rid of that Nikon just yet. Sony's noise cancelling algorithm misinterpretation sees stars as noise. Just sayin.

Sony A7RIII Eats Stars.

I already have A7SII and A6300, I know of that problem but it's surely less seroious than someone says. I do a lot of night photography without any problem. And in the A7RIII suffer less of that problem (I'm sure Sony is going to fix it)

It's pretty serious if your exposure time goes above 3.2s; for most night photography other than deeper night sky photography you'd be shorter that that, and you'd probably be hard pressed to notice it. But for serious night sky photography Sony is (currently) a complete non-starter.

Gee, I thought on most cameras you have option to turn off (or adjust) any noise-reduction processing ...

You can do it in the Sony cameras, but this a different thing, it's an algorithm that "eats" some small details in order to remove noise and stars can be... small details.

In any case I'm still shooting with D750 and A7SII and the problem is absolutely less dramatic than what some online magazines say. I did side by side comparisons and still Sony has super performances. But of course I hope they soon disable that feature consiedring that the starting file is super even without that sort of noise reduction.

I saw you asking some Sony questions recently too! :-)

Olympus and Panasonic are doing good stuff now. I love bigger sensors and I couldn't work with a tiny one. But I love GH5 and I'd like to try it for videomaking. But I will run out of money as soon as I get (in the next couple of weeks) my brand new A7RIII+24-70 2.8

Sony does noise reduction on raw images?

If so, what other processing is done on raws (by various mfrs?)
12/06/2017 09:17:54 PM · #20
I thought only Fuji did noise reduction on RAWs that cannot be turned off.

Pretty much everybody processes RAW data prior to recording. An example would be the algorithms used to eliminate (or greatly minimize) the banding we used to see due to row-to-row read-out variation. These algorithms have gotten more sophisticated. Note that A7RIII demonstrates slightly greater DR than A7RII, despite using the exact same sensor. Processing.

That's a very important thing! A lot of people complain about a new having the same sensor, but the work of internal software can make th difference. In the past, with the same sensors, I preferred Nikon files over the Sony ones. During the years a few things have changed.
