All,

One of our friends, who has cancer, is being forced out of her job as a teacher because the county won't let her take leave without pay to do a 4 month treatment program.

it's very surprising and saddening to see your friend in the paper, like this:

here's the article (registration required, sorry):
//www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A61570-2005Jan9.html

the bottom line is that she is a very good teacher, in a county that is always complaining that there is a shortage of very good teachers, and they won't bend the rules to let her do leave WITHOUT pay because she has not been in the job 'long enough'. So as a result, she is going to be fired, and jobless, with cancer that may or may not be treatable.

Please help by flooding the email boxes of the Loudoun County School District's superintendent with email protesting the firing of Alison Yowell.

schools@loudoun.k12.va.us
Attn: Dr. Edgar B. Hatrick, Superintendent

Thanks for your attention.

Maybe you should reword the "flooding the email boxes" part, just to clarify that what you're asking is legal...

i have no idea what you're talking about.

i'm just talking about a public outpouring of messages condemning the actions of the schoolboard.

I know that. I just didn't want an overzealous spamguy to have a new victim for his "stick it to the man" e-mail delivery 'system'...

Anyhow, it's certainly a worthy cause to write a letter for...keep us posted on what happens...

yeah - difficult in this day and age to get around all the spam guys.

thanks, i will. i think the more messages that say they are upset about the action, the better.

Exactly! A well composed letter (not necessarily lengthy, just well written) will speak volumes while 50 e-mails that say "You guys suck and I hope you get fired for your decisions, you dumb jerks" won't speak a single word.

I read about this yesterday; very sad and not very fair.

I would suggest you post this in General Discussion though, as many DPC members have rant turned off.
