We regret to announce that we will no longer be supporting TIFF format for print uploads. The reason is basically this...
Uncompressed TIFFs are huge, and if we allow people to continue uploading 15mb TIFFs of images that could be saved as max quality JPEGS at 1/10th that size, we're quickly going to run out of space. So, why not allow compressed TIFFs like we have been? Well, what's become very clear to us in the past two days is that compressed TIFFs use a patented algorithm called LZW compression, and allowing our users to upload them could get us into serious trouble. Quite frankly, we can't afford to pay the ridiculous license.
Now, before our TIFF users get upset... let me share with you some information I found out today. Our printer (who prints probably thousands of prints a day) does not store anything but JPGs. Even when their software goes out and grabs images from partner sites in other formats, they are converted to 12-quality jpegs before being saved on their printing server. The nail in the coffin is that (also due to licensing issues), our printer cannot accept LZW compressed TIFFs.
For those who have already uploaded TIFFs... We will be converting your images to JPGs tonight or tomorrow morning at either 95% quality or 100% quality, depending on my further research. This will not affect you, and you will not have to do anything.
For those who use TIFF and need help getting to another format... Converting to JPG is very simple, and at the highest quality, you will not be able to tell the difference. Please feel free to post your questions, and I and the other users I'm sure will be able to help out.
We really appreciate your understanding on this. Keep those prints coming in!

Sorry, just uploaded some images...any further info on the .PNG format?

We are considering coding to accept PNG format, but we have to find out for sure if our printer can grab such files. The catch-22 is that no matter what, before your image is printed, it will be saved as a (highest quality) JPEG... so we're kind of eliminating the middle step here.

That's fine...you might consider posting suggested settings for various software. For example, I usually use PS 5, so my JPEG quality scale only goes from 1-10. I could use PS 7 with a finer scale, but I'm figuring there's no reason to save at any but the highest quality for these.
Do you know if there's any quality differences in the JPEG conversions? I can also use IrfanView or maybe even Illustrator...

PNG might make sense if, when they "grab" our JPEG, it is opened and re-saved, as opposed to if it is copied intact (and maybe re-named).

From what I understand, there is no pre-save 'opening'. The image is converted if necessary, saved, and queued for printing. After print, the image is deleted.
