Well according to the USPS, the Cherry Blossoms should be in bloom around April 7thish. This is always a great weekend to go shooting in DC. There's the street festival, and all the tourists make for fun shooting.

I'm looking at a GTG the 8-10thish. We can meet up in Chinatown and work our way to the Tidal Basin.

I'll dig out some more shots from past Cherry Blossom weekend trips and post em here.

And as of now the attendees are:
blemt (your host)
ClubJuggle (for comic relief)
Manic (our token Brit)
nova (to help the host eventually get organized when she actually replies to her emails. :D )
durkovic (for elaborately set up motion shots)
skiprow (if he's out on bond...)
dan_pendelton (who I don't know remotely well enough yet to make a witty comment about. Wait for it.)
banmorn (keeper of the pepto)
richterrell (Birdman)
Drew (God 1)
Langdon (God 2)
smokeditor (Ribbon Master)

These are the confirmed/I'm sure they are coming barring acts of god or the courts. Or the USAF. ;)

The date- April 9, the time 11am at Union Station. First off, lunch at Cap City. And I do need the rest of yall to confirm so I can call Cap City and make sure that we can all get in for lunch. Cause I'm not even gonna try for dinner reservations this particular weekend.

After lunch we will meander our way through Chinatown, down to the National Mall, and then around towards the Tidal Basin. Detours to the WW2 Memorial, and Monument Triangle area possible. The high point event- Sunset at Ye Olde Tidal Basin.

Bring yer tripods boys and girls. :)

Darn! I'll be down too early! I arrive for a 4 day conference on the 15th. Any chance of Cherry Blossom buds?

I've shot cherry blossoms the last two years, it's one of the best photo ops of the year. But the conditions have to be right. Not the easiest of events to shoot. I feel lucky that I live close enough so I can make several trips to the Tidal Basin if necessary. Chinatown sounds interesting, that would be new for me.

I can make it on either the 8th or 9th. Hope it works out.

Prolly not (15th or March I'm assuming). But if you feel like going out to play cameras drop me a line. We can maybe hit the zoo and shoot the baby cheetahs. :)

So plan on a lunchish meetup in Chinatown, then wander down to the Tidal Basin and do battle with tourists and other photographers for sunset? Sounds like a plan.

Are you leaning towards a particular day? Fri or Sat works for me.

If we can get people down on Friday it might be a little bit saner. We'd only have out of area tourists to contend with.

Darn! I've already locked into the Carolina Raptor Photo Shoot for the 9th. I hate to miss the chance for the Cherry Blossoms, that should be great fun.

I've mostly gone in the early morning, afternoon sun would be different.

*bump*

So- 9th looks like it will work? I do kinda need some firm Yes/Nos here since I'll have to schedule myself off work on a potentially busy weekend. :)

Keeping this going for the next few days so I can round people up. Again, the plan is: Meet up for lunch in Chinatown, then walk down to the Tidal Basin.

Peak blossoms are forecast for Apr 4 to 9. Judging from recent weather, and the forecast, peak may be toward the near end of that range.

As mentioned in the NYC thread(s), I'm gonna be stateside for between the 8th and the 18th April (provisionally - the exact days are still flexible), and I was planning on doing DC for the first half then NYC for the second, soo... I'll probably be making my way to this GTG too! :o)

I suppose this means I've got to dust off the couch. :) Sweet. Since the peak bloom should be around the 9th, we should have good times.

Anyone else?

Checking up to try and get a little better idea of head count. And does anyone have any food allergies/extreme money issues that limit choice of eateries?

Food: Hot and spicy? NO! Just about anything else will do just fine!
