Could anyone give me some advice on purchasing a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro AF Lens for Nikon D70?

I currently have...

Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6G
Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED

I'm wanting the ability to take good Macro shots and Portrait photographs.

1/ Would the Sigma 105mm be a good compliment to the lenses I already have?
2/ I would like the Nikon version, but I have found it a little expensive. I have seen the Sigma lens new for as little as US$349 on Ebay.
3/ Does anyone have a second hand Sigma or Nikon 105mm? (P.M or email me. Would love to hear from you!)

I couldn't recomend enough the sigma 105mm. I have it and I'm amazed with what it can achieve. Super crisp images, execellent in low light, good macro. At half the Nikon price you can't beat it.

Did you take the shots of the motor cycles with the 105? They are so sharp and crisp.

Have you seen the Sigma any cheaper then US$349?

I love it.

Look at Ursula's image here on the D70, 105mm sample page and here are other samples for the Canon version of the lens.

It's a great value for a hobbyist especially, who doesn't need to spend crazy money on the Nikkors.

I have visited New Zealand a few times and there is a small camera shop at the top end of the main vein running through Aukland center on the right hand side the man also sells guitars too, he will have that lens in stock i am sure of it.

I have the Sigma 105 macro and it is an amazing bit of glass, Im not such a great macro shooter but since buying that lens I have a love for close work, i just need to practice more. Jacko uses the same lens too.

If you need to order online (I have never done that) all i would suggest would be maybe to try NZ yahoo auctions or e-bay you may be lucky.

Thanks for that. I have been doing the rounds on the International internet auctions, and find that the best deals seem to come out of Hong Kong. The lenses are pretty expensive in NZ.
