In my quest to learn creative lighting techniques, I have purchased an off-camera shoe cord for my 420ex flash. I can see the possibilities for several shooting situations, but I was wondering if any of you have some tips or tricks to share. Any samples you can share where an off camera flash is used to light the scene/subject would be appreciated.

Bump...
Anybody have this setup? Let's see what you got.

Get a flash bracket. You mount your camera in the bracket and your flash goes up on top. That way, the flash stays above your camera regardless of whether you are shooting landscape or portrait orientation. It also adds a bit more distance between the lens and flash, increasing the angle of reflection and avoiding the dreaded red-eye.

Thanks for the advice. I have seen these brackets and understand their advantages. I am sort of looking at using the flash handheld in various positions to illuminate objects creating interesting moods and shadows. I thought that some of the entries in the recent backlighting challenge would have used this sort of 'technique'. Any creative uses for this setup that you know of?
