I started looking through some profiles and see some people have been registered for over a year.. yet don't have any challenge entries or portfolio pics... and I'm sending them messages to start getting into the fun more. Just friendly notes, of course.

I wonder what they do here then? Some haven't even posted to the forums yet.

Excellent idea!

I didn't get a note from you yet. :( Have those people voted on challenges and what is their average vote given if so. I've been looking for troll voter and have found a couple so far.

A large portion of those accounts could be people who have purchased things on DPCPrints (creating an account there creates one here) and aren't actually interested in participating on DPC.

Also, portfolio pics are a benifit of paid membership. Registered users don't have them.

I am one of those phantom users. I recently purchased a digital, love to take pictures but am never happy enough with them to want to post them. I have things in my mind that I can't get out in pictures. Other people post great pictures and I hope to have some one of these days. They never come out like I have envisioned. One day i will!!

Greg, some of your pictures may just tickle the fancy of others in ways that might surprise you. The best part of DPC is the mentoring and sharing of ideas and comments on your images. Once you've entered a challenge and the voting is over you can ask for some ritiques via the forums.

My thoughts are that you should take the plunge and enter. You'll find out more of the things that are bugging you in a week than scratching your head and wondering.

Groot... I too have these images in my head that my lack of experience leads me with "poop" pictures in my opinion. However, I post most of them just "becuase" and it turns out my taste may not be coming out in my pictures like I want, but others out there love what I post. At first it was weird but then again, I don't like yorkies and there are tons of people out there who love them! (off topic I know, but I am an anology user). :)

Just post and let fate determine the ridicule.....

I guess I'm one of those people too. I guess I should just take the plunge and become a paid member instead of a free one so I can post some of my pics for you all to laugh at. ;-)

As far as what I do here, I study the pictures that capture my attention and try to figure out how to emulate them. I also read a lot of the posts trying to get ideas as how to improve my photos and what not. I have found the majority of the info here very helpful and hopefully I can convey that in my pictures that I take as well as using my own "style".

This is a well-intentioned idea, but if too many users report those messages as unsolicited commercial email (spam), it could cause DPChallenge's mailservers to end up on spam blacklists. If that happened, emails to many of our active users would end up getting blocked.

It's probably best not to do this.

Thanks,
Terry

How is one user using the PM system to encourage another user, who signed up for an account, to use the account they signed up for spam?

Hmm...my mother is a member here and she has no portfolio images nor has she entered any challenges. She just enjoys viewing the photos and voting. Not everyone is here to take pics and post...

I'm not saying it is. What I'm saying is that if enough recipients REPORT it as such ("enough" being only a couple in some cases) via certain software, it will nonetheless cause DPC to get blacklisted with certain list providers. In most cases those lists are automated based on number of reports. I can easily see how a recipient who might not even remember ever signing up for DPC might consider such a message an unsolicited commercial email. It is unsolicited (they didn't ask for it), commercial (it advertises a for-profit web site, regardless of the fact that the owners did not authorize said advertisement), and it is of course an email.

I look at the user and see the average vote cast. You'd be suprised how many you can find even in an older challenge.

I joined a month or two ago because I really loved some of the work I saw and I really wanted to give some of the challenges a try. But then I started trying to make sense out of the rules for each type of catagory. I thought it was just my inability to grasp what was required, but then I started reading all the threads with debates and dicussions about rules and why sometimes some counted and sometimes they didn't and all and figured I'd probably do something that wasn't allowed and get DQ'ed with my picture posted on the DQ'ed wall in the back for all to see... I've voted on a couple of the challenges but to do it right, it takes a lot of time and effort. And I don't have time to sit for an hour or more at a time like some of you do. But I'm sure some of the people that have signed up but haven't done anything have probably felt the same way after they signed up.
