So my laptop has a DVI output and my new TV has a DVI input. I'm guessing it's not as simple as just connecting the two for me to see the output and start using CS2 on a 56" screen.

Do I need a driver for the TV or what is the process going to entail?

try hooking the laptop to the tv and see... it may be as simple as that...

Yes it should be this simple, I have done it and continue to do it with both my desktop and laptop computer.

Well, I haven't done it because I don't have the DVI cable yet. :)

Sometimes it's that simple, sometimes it's not. Not all TV's will accept a PC's DVI signal.

If it's a rear projection screen I wouldn't recomend it as you can get problems with burn in. Take a look in your TV manual, often times it'll talk about hooking a PC up to it (in the warnings if nothing else).

You usually don't need a driver or anything. On my laptop you have to hit a couple keys to "turn on" the TV output (Fn + F8), so you might have some kind of "on" switch too. Have you tried just plugging it in yet?

I've got a DLP so burn-in is not an issue. It also has 1920x1280 resolution so it should look nice and sweet.

I just ordered a DVI cable from monoprice. 25ft for $38 which is great compared to the ripoff places like RadioShack or BestBuy want to charge...

It will work just use the cable, turn on the computer and it should display on the screen. I currently use a 56" DLP for playing computer games. Takes a bit to get used to, but man is it big and fun.

The real big factor determining quality is not the resolution. You may find that your 1920x1280 resolution sucks royally. It's whether the display is Progressive or Interlaced.

720p (although lower resolution) often looks better than 1080i as a monitor. There are a few new sets that are 1080p. These are just gorgeous. They're also big $$$$$

This is what I have 1080p and it does look gorgeous. I choosed this set because of the 1080p and the inputs, card reader and the picture quality.
