The image previously in 1st place has been DQed due to exif showing it was taken outside the time frame for the challenge.

This is so NOT the way I wanted another blue ribbon. Was this deliberate cheating or did he just forget to adjust the time zone or something? Well anyway, congrats to thegrandwazoo for his first ribbon, I am sure that he agrees with me that this is not the way he wanted to win a ribbon...

Why is it sad when a rule violation is exposed, and the image removed? I feel it is an occasion for applauding the work of our Site Council. Thanks to all of you on SC.

Rules are rules. A screw up is a screw up. Don't screw up.

If I got a ribbon because somebody else screwed up I'd be out dancing naked in the streets. :-D

The instances of deliberate cheating we've seen on this site are luckily few and far between. We have no reason to believe that this was anything other than an honest mistake.

Now THAT would make a ribbon winning shot :)

On topic: It's alway's sad to see somebody getting DQ'ed, especialy when it's a mistake they made. But yes, rules are rules.

Actually, it could be sad if the the party concerned was being penalized if indeed the act was one of omission or lack of knowledge. While the "Actus Reus" is beyond dispute, the "Mens Rea" may not be...and that is the sad part.

Personally, I am much more concerned about instances where "The Spirit" of the challenge was violated but no action can be taken since "No Rules" were broken.

That is what I assumed and that is why I feel sorry for the guy, I know what it´s like to win your first ribbon and also what it´s like to be disqualified and lose a ribbon because of a mistake so I can only imagine what it feels like when you put those two together...

I suppose if I ever won a ribbon & was then DQ'd for a screw up I might roll naked in broken glass on the street.

It's sad when an excellent image has to be pulled for any reason. That said, I assume it was a mistake...

I wasn't being negavtive towards SC... Two thumbs up to them for their hard work.
