Obviously, different people are here at DPC for different reasons. Recently I've thought about why I am here, and what really matters to me about my time here. I've been able to boil it down to a few key things, and have decided that there are certain things I want to stick to. So I have made a list of my "DPC Resolutions". Some of them will be more difficult to stick to than others, but I hope I can do a good job with all.

Disclaimer: These are my own personal resolutions. Posting this is just going on record as having made the resolutions, so that I can have another way to hold myself accountable for them. This post is NOT intended to make any kind of statement.

I will be understanding of those who put their time and effort into making this site a better place.

I will attempt to help others learn, recognizing that even with my limited experience I have things to offer. I will attempt to learn as much as I can from the work and the comments of others.

I will say everything in as considerate a manner as possible. I will also understand that no matter what I say or how I say it, it is likely to be offensive to at least one person. If someone is offended, I will realize that it is not because I did not try to be kind, and I will not take their feelings personally.

I will understand that there is a difference between "pushing the envelope" or "thinking outside of the box" and not understanding the challenge specifications. I will work on getting better at avoiding the latter before I try the former.

I will have fun. I will never take myself so seriously that I get upset over a score or a placement in a challenge. I will recognize that a score or placement is not a reflection on me but an opportunity to learn. I will enter challenges with the thought that entering is its own reward, and any votes, comments, critiques, criticisms, favorites, or other feedback that I get are bonuses to be thankful for.

I second Louis' comment.

A guy at work asked me today if I thought my pictures were getting better because of participating here. I told him most definitely! And an attitude like yours makes that all possible. :-)

Aw, thanks. I appreciate the bump as even though these resolutions are in my profile, the stuff in my profile tends to become part of the background after so many times looking. So this gave me a great opportunity to look at and evaluate how I was doing.

I think my biggest rough spot along the way came in regards to the last "resolution". But right now I'm able to look at my 4.3 score on the front page and, despite grumping about it a little of course at first, I can be okay with that. A 4.3 isn't such a nice place to be, but being happy with myself as a photographer certainly is.

hi kelly ..
just noticed you made me a fav ... thankyou for that ... and i've just read your dpc resolutions .....
i love your attitude ... esp the bit about being understanding of the ppl who put their time into dpc, and the bit about saying everything in as considerate manner as possible, also the bit about helping others and learning from others .. and not taking it personally if someone misunderstands or gets offended .. also the bit about pushing the envelope and thinking outside the box .. of course, HAVING FUN and not taking yourself too seriously is sooooo important ... not getting upset over a score could save you from insanity .. and entering challenges with the thought that entering is its own reward, and any votes, comments, critiques, criticisms, favorites, or other feedback that I get are bonuses to be thankful for, IMO is wot dpc is all about ....
SO, I COULDNT HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF !! ... and you can take that literally, without the 'better' ..!!!!! .......

edit ... think i'll copy and paste this and send it to you in a PM just in case you dont look in here ... it is 5 months since someone posted in here after all ..
