I do two types of photography: I shoot candids of kids and I also shoot artistic nudes. The artistic nudes are for me to build a portfolio and try to sell as art. The kids are obviously to make money from the parents. In addition, I am going to do some nude stuff for wives/couples that want pictures like that. So here's my question - what kind of releases do I need for each? Obviously I need a model release for the artistic nudes. However, what do I need for the kids and the nudes for women/couples? I don't plan on publishing those pics. They are for the client ONLY. Do I just need a contract between the photographer and client?

Prof_fate and idnic, you do a lot of client related photos (weddings, portraits, etc.). Any advice? And do you have some examples of the contracts? I already have ALL the model releases and have tailored them to my specifics.

A generic model release (or part of your contract) that says you will only use the images for self-promotion (your website, etc) should be all you need for the kiddies or any other portrait clients. For the nudes, however, if you want to sell, or potentially sell them you definitely want an in-depth release that explains how / where those images may be used or made for sale, etc.
I include the basic release info in my contract so I don't have to make them sign something twice.

I don't have an electronic copy of my contract right now - goofed and lost the file while transfering a bunch of stuff to the external hard drive. I'll have to retype everything as soon as I run out of copies. Bah! You can find tons of sample contracts online though. :)

If you have a scanner, I'm sure it came with some sort of OCR program that can take the burden of retyping the whole contract. Or, if you don't have a scanner, you can more-than-likely shoot a photo of the contract and run it through an OCR program (I'm sure a freeware OCR is available).

Generic Adult Release

Generic Minor Release

These are the ones I use, on my letterhead. Feel free to use the text if you like, or rework it.
