Here's an interesting article about photojournalism at the New York Times...

Notice that url ends in "dpc"! :-)

Interesting stuff. Two thoughts.
"Don't let technical issues come between you and a great picture; make it second nature. Recognize the role of aesthetics in storytelling. And shoot, shoot and shoot some more."
This was excellent advice and I need to constantly be reminded of it.
"You are prohibited from shooting bridges and tunnels, less so the subway."
What is this all about? Am I unaware of some special laws in NY?

Thanks for the bump, Ellen. I was wondering about the prohibition on shooting bridges as well. I know in California, you can be stopped from taken photos of dams. And I was told in Philadelphia not to take anymore photos of a federal building. Not sure if there are any written laws behind it though.

A little dash of 9/11 will do that sort of thing to a cities policies...perhaps we're a little too paranoid...perhaps not.
As I always say..."Paranoid is the best way to act when everyboby's out to get you".

I thought this part from the ad for a staff photographer was interesting too ... : )
Knowledge of the web, multimedia and video will be strongly considered. Technical proficiency in Macintosh computers a must. Send portfolio and resume. |
