Hey guys! How are you all???
In the past week I've made several contacts, with several diff companies, trying to promote my job. Today I got a call, and one of these companies wants me to be a second photographer in a wedding tomorrow. I'll be doing, mostly, candids. Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions, on how to behave, how to position myself, what to do and what not to do. Any suggestion/idea/thought is welcome! I'm really excited about this!

Waiting on yall.......

Well if you are doing mostly candids, I would suggest a long lens, so that you can keep a safe distance and take photos without disturbing the people and ruining a candid moment.

Humm, I thought of that, but too bad that I sold my 70-200 2.8.
The only lens i have available now is a 17-85.
A I might be able to put my hands on a 70-300, the regular ones.

If you're just doing candids, roam around and have fun with the guests. This puts them at ease and makes your job that much easier.

Let us know how it goes! I am interested in, whenever I get married, having a second photographer for candids.

I recently did photos for my brother-in-law's wedding. Great experience. Actually, my biggest regret was not looking at more wedding photos before the wedding. We did a practice shoot the weekend before, but it was only marginally useful. Good to get an idea of the lighting and location, but on the day, the feel was very different, and I found it really hard to relax and have fun on the day.

Anyway, my one regret was not looking at more wedding photos before hand. I found some wedding photography books a week later, and they were full of great ideas. I so wished I'd thought of that before hand.

As the second photographer, you'll probably have more freedom to move around, so look for the odd angles, and the odd situations while everyone's focus is on the main photographer. I agree with ignite about the long lens, but candids can also mean getting photos of the 100 or so other people at the wedding who the main photographer doesn't have time to shoot, so you could still make use of your existing lens for this.

Good luck, relax and have fun with your camera and 100 or more willing subjects.

I was at a wedding recently and just hung around the main photographer to get ideas, he often took two photos of everything (is that enough??).

By doing this, I was able to get some candid shots of others, only using my 50mm lens (I just didn't bring any others) but he had a 20-124 mm as well as 28-105 mm lens that he was using. I noticed he didn't really take many of the guests so I would think it would be great to have photos of all who attend or at least as many as you can get. I would take close ups of certain items in the room, like of the bunches of flowers, table settings at different angles, photos of children doing amusing antics etc. One newlywed said her favourite photos of her wedding were the ones using natural light next to windows etc.

At least that is what I'd do. Good luck there!
