Hi guys. Ok so I just finished rebuilding my website //www.dustingodwinphoto.com (feedback welcome). And now I need to promote it and drum up some business. When you guys started out what was the best way to attract new clients? So far 100% of mine have been from referals only. Any help or ideas would be great (or I might have to get a real job , ack). Thanks guys.
ps I would describe my skill level as moderate when it comes to shooting portraits.

You should center your site

You should put together packages that make it worth your while. I think you might be seriously undervaluing your work. Have you studied what other photographers charge?

I think you should have some images on the Home page, or at least something that makes me want to click to see your work (which is quite good BTW).

You have a page of services, where you detail your Baby and Maternity photography and your approach. You do a little of that for portraiture and nothing for the rest. I think you need to sell the rest of your services as well as you do your Baby and Maternity Photography. You also should have links from those services to some of your images that show what you can do in those areas.

Your gallery has a lot of good work, but it's hard to connect the categories in the gallery to the categories of services you offer. I think the work is there, you just need to organize it better for the customer.

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm seriously just trying to help.

I don't know if you've looked at Dan Heller's photo Biz site, but theer is a lot of good info in there. He's promoting is book, but I can't see what he's left off the site that's in the book. Regardless, it's a good resource, especially where he talks about pricing.

I want to echo what Spaz said.

I firmly believe you should have work on your front page. You are a photographer and you have some nice work. Show a shot or two off.

Just tell everyone you know and everyone you meet what you do. It will be difficult at first but you will get used to it. I haven't had much luck with the portrait side of my business because I don't really know anyone I can but you should be fine.
