My goal for october is to have three new clients; any ideas on how to get them? Right now my only form of marketing is my website.

By the way, this is commercial photography so think business and not individuals.

I was thinking about making a brochure detailing my services, some examples of work, and reasons why businesses need professional photography for their marketing to succeed - and then dropping these brochures off at local businesses. What do you think?

I just completed a successful shoot for HP and it really hyped me up - but I have nothing lined up for October. I need ideas!

If you are equipped to do this then here's an idea I've been toying with of late...

You'll need a portable backdrop system and preferably strobes.

Mail a (personalized) letter to the head broker and the office manager (if there is one) of all your local real estate agent offices. Even in my little town we've got a half dozen offices with between 4 and 12 agents each. Offer to come to their office and do "head shot day" for all the agents. For $75 you'll take a head shot and provide the digital file along with a royalty free release for them to use it for business cards, fliers, ads, etc.

You'll get a lot of great contacts...realtors know everyone! I did this on a small scale and ended up booking a $350 job photographing a large house they were having trouble getting good advertising shots for. They knew I had the equipment because I brought a pair of strobes to head shot day. They were familiar with my work, and when they decided they needed a pro my card was at the top of the head agent's rolodex.

Edit: I just reread your original post, and I don't know if you're willing and/or able to do portraits in order to get some commercial work. I'm trying to focus on commercial work as well, but thought this was worth my time to get my name known at the agency. YMMV.

This is a great idea man. This is exactly why I posted my qeustion - to get a response like this. Now I just need strobes! Lol. I have continuous lighting that sucks my left you know what. You think I could make out with just the backdrop and a lightsphere? I'll be getting strobes after my next big job - I just used the last job to upgrade to a 30D.

once you get that GOOD happy client, your marketing should start from their word of mouth. I have three weddings this month and two other shoots that all came from people who saw my review on a website from a shoot i did or a referral from their friend i did a shoot for. I doubt ill advertise myself since im already handling two jobs.

Get some good work in and do some pro bono stuff to spread the word (=
