I have been asked to photograph at a local private learning center. I will shooting the facility, teachers etc. The photos will be used for promotional uses in brochures, website etc.
I have decided that I would prefer to waive the fee for my time shooting the photos, and charge per photo selected for use. I would be selling unrestricted usage of a digtal file
The dilemma is that I want to break into this type of work and don't want to scare off a client by asking too much...but I dont want to fall into the classic trap of undercharging just to get the work.

If you undercharge you will scare clients away faster than over-charging. If you charge cheap you be thought of as cheap.
What would I charge. Well lets say a half day of on site including preparation, checking lights, shooting and packing up to leave. They get up from 6-8 photos completely processed. They can pick from the low quality proofs (only offer to show them less than 50) and you will process only the 6-8 of them.
Charge them a minimum of $600. This can be reached by invoicing them for $900 with a discount of $300 if they choose the proofs within one week of the shoot and accept final delivery within three weeks.
So there you go a price to start with. Just don't be cheap, it will not really help you in gaining a good reputation.
Goos luck! |
