Wow, I gave your entry a 9 and left a comment to the effect that this was one of my top-10 picks. But seeing your runner up, I like it even more. Superb!

I had this one submitted until about 5 minutes before deadline:

And this is my entry that I did a full edit on and uploaded in those last 5 minutes before deadline:

The last one is the one I wished I had picked.

This the one I did pick

What I entered:

What I probably should have entered:
I know the busy green background still hurts the photograph but the detail of the bird is a whole lot better.

one option, an outtake
my other choice
and here was my entry
It was tough but I wanted to try something different. How can you really pick our best photo in an entire year?

My other choices:

Not sure which I would have chosen.

But I picked this instead, and I think I chose ok:

I only had one other photo I seriously considered entering. Probably would've done better:

These are ones I had considered entering but didn't:

This was my outtake, but after scoring a 6.59 I cant really complain!

Entry: Original Processing:

Other options:

I thought it was quite funny that the majority of commenters on the challenge image were women. :)

I was going with this photo:

But decided on this photo after Post Processing.

Glad I did because it scored me a new personal best. But I wonder, how the other would have done also.

Hi. Meet 'Lanky'. :P That's the title I had in mind for this shot. Actually had him in at one point and switched. Kind of glad I did. :D

If the front part of his leg/"foot" had been in focus it may have been a different story.

'Lanky' is a walking stick bug...up close and personal.

Here is a shot I was considering sending instead but I still like my entry better, this is one of my favorite 4-5 portraits I did last year and I was always holding it in "reserve" for this challenge.

Pretty nice shot but I agree that the one you submitted was the right choice. It is more "gritty", has more character.

Some that I debated over:

<-- I really really like this one (even if it should have part of the bottom cropped and lopped off)*

*although I still really like what I entered

I had a bunch to choose from, but I went with something funny simply because it was a one-in-a-million shot. Some of my other contenders:

I felt this was my best shot all year for a myriad of reasons, but it was in my portfolio her and had been viewed over 700 times... so I didn't think it would be right to submit. I sat out.
