I have some scoring questions:

1) Are the "best 4 scores" going to be from any member, or is it the best score from four different members? For example, if members score like so in the two challenges for a given week:
6, 5
7, 6.5
7, 6.25
5, 5.5

Are the "best 4" going to be:
7, 7, 6, 5.5 (the best score from each of the four members) or
7, 7, 6.5, 6.25 (the best 4 scores across all members)

And will the number of votes each gets matter?

2) Is the team score the average of the average scores, or is it weighted by the number of votes?

For example, let's say there are two team members to keep it simple.

Their scores are:
6, 150 votes
5.5, 250 votes

Is the team average (6+5.5)/2= 5.75
or (6*150 + 5.5*250)/400=5.6875

It would seem like weighting would better reflect "true" performance, because the same score after many more votes means you've impressed more people (for better or worse).

I don't much care, because I'm doing DPL mainly for the collaboration, but I'm curious.

In the past the scores were taken as the best one of the top 4, so if I had a 6.5 and a 6.9, they would only take the 6.9 for the team.

From the DPL faq page:

4 - How does the scoring work?
There are two parts to this:

-Team Member Scores - Each week, there are two challenges - member (Sunday) and open (Tuesday), to which all (DPC member) team members can enter either or both. The 4 best scores from the best 4 team members are averaged together to make the Team Score for that week.

-Team Scores - Once the team score has been calculated from the team member scores, the team with the highest score wins that week’s match.

You'll want to enter twice a week (if possible) to maximize your highest score for the week since only one can count per member.

Scott, that was the text that left me confused and asking my questions. What does "4 best scores from the 4 best team members" mean?

Could you answer in relation to the example I gave?

Also, it doesn't address whether the averages are weighted to include vote totals or not.

Thanks!

Sounds to me like the scoring hasn't changed - it's the same as the last WPL season.

I've never been in the WPL, hence my questions.

Oops! My bad. :/

Say you have 7 team members. Each member can only score once even if their two scores for the week are the highest two for the team.

You would use the best score for each team member, then of those, you use the top 4 scores and average them by getting a sum and divide by 4.

example:
team member score 1 score 2

person #1 5.25 6.15
person #2 n/a 5.75
person #3 7.15 6.80
person #4 5.15 n/a
person #5 4.85 6.25
person #6 6.05 5.90
person #7 n/a 5.60

Score in bold would be the top 4. Team average in this example is (25.6 divided by 4) 6.40
