Perhaps I am feeling a tad frustrated, but I truly would like to see some form of justification when threads are locked.

Yes I can appreciate that they sometimes veer of course, that language can become somewhat inflammatory, and that egos may be bruised... but surely there are mechanisms in place to address these problematic issues without having to resort to the ultimate form of censorship.

As things currently stand, one gets the impression that threads are often locked on a whim, with no substantive reason as to why they were terminated.

If there truly is a valid reason, do share it with us... it might make the decision a tad more palatable.

They used to leave a message as the last post, stating what the reason was...it was usually pretty obvious anyways. But since the posts have started disappearing and other antics (not just from SC...so don't jump down my throat please)...things have become a little blurred.

I am going to speak openly here...there is no need for any insinuations of the between the lines crap.

People are just requiring a bit more consistency across the board here. There has been so much talk of rule differences, forum confusion, both in rules and mannerisms, breaking of rules on both SC and members parts..and differences in handling of decisions from one SC to another....especially when they are all meant to be representing one body....and also the differences between the members...both in styles, personalities, etc, etc.

Please is there anyway this can be cleared up to keep a little order and peace in this community.

Can I lock this thread because I'm getting sick of people demanding we justify (to them, personally, individually) every action we take?

Can you imagine how much worse it would seem if we just went through the threads hiding the posts we thought inappropriate ...

How about the membership exercising some self-discpline and quit posting inflammatory, ego-bruising, irrelevant, or inane posts in the first place ... then we won't need any "censorship" by the SC members.

Pretty much like that ... you know, we all have other stuff we're supposed to be doing too. Believe it or not, we are not all simultaneously monitoring the site 24/7 and communicating by perpetual tele-conference ... :-)

Nope, sorry - That's one of the main SC Conspiracy theories. You can't deny it that easily. We have evidence.

I just hate the idea that SC owes us anything!
This is not our site. We get to USE this site.
Even if we pay money... there's what they promise to do, like give us portfolio space, and beyond that we are owed nothing.

I am amazed time and again by SC's ability to find the middle ground and make as many people as possible happy. I am amazed at their patience and at the commitment they have to the site and the caring they show towards the people here.

They do a fantastic job.

If they decide to lock threads, DEAL WITH IT.

I think we ARE dealing with it - as far as I know, so far no blood has been spilled over the issue.

I agree with you that for the most part the SC are wonderful people doing a wonderful job.
However, far too often the thought-police gets carried away!

I have seen countless posts/threads vanish without any explanation, often enough for very VERY little reason.

Unless there is a very GOOD reason (and yes, that happens, too), it should be dealt with in ways that don't involve simply disappearing our thoughts.

Censorship to THAT degree is just wrong.

No, it ISN'T wrong! This is a privately owned site. We may dislike how they decide to practice "censorship" but it isn't in any way wrong.

You are correct that they are not answerable to us as free citizens of a democratic society. However, they are answerable to us as consumers who paid for a service.

That's why I mentioned earlier the stuff like portfolio space. We paid for a membership, we get portfolio space, the ability to enter more challenges, and a couple extra forums. THAT is what they're answerable to us for.

If there's anything else that my membership dollars pay for, I must be missing it.

Judi is right -- sometimes it is obvious why a thread was locked. ie. hopelessly off topic and pointless.

YUp... and customer service is at the forefront of how any consumer views a company.

If AT&T customer service told me there was nothing wrong with my phone and to just let it go, would they still have my account, no!

I'm not going to get into this rant, but there is something very WRONG at DPC. Langdon would serve his future pocket book well to listen to his clients and find out who or what that is.

That's all I'm going to say.
