May seem a stupid question but how do I tell how many "clicks" or total number of photos taken by my EOS - 30d. I know there is the file numbering in Camera which is set to continuous but still not sure if that is correct and what happens when you change memory card? - See it talked about all the time like mileage on a car...

Not sure, but I think you have to hook it up to the Digital Photo Professional software that came with your camera via USB directly to the computer. Never tried it myself.

Doesn't the number get put in the picture's name?

The EXIF data for my Canon shows a serial number at the very bottom showing the total number of shutter actuations. The numbering system "rolls over" after a certain number (usually 10,000 -- so they can use four-digit numbering), and then the next number increments and your folder numbers change.

Beware though, if you use a "borrowed" memory card formatted in another camera, it can reset the numbering -- I'm not really at 29,000 exposures ...
