YES, yet another one, I HAD to bring this subject back on spotlights again.

Previous threads, many people were FOR a few challenges a year (to start with) voted by selected judges.

Reason #1 - Selected judges will have better knowledge of Photography to judge, instead of random voting of some not so clever people in DPC.

Reason #2 - Votes will be explained, so we know why we got 3, or 10

Reason #3 - We can ask questions to judges, since we know who voted for our work.

Suggestion: Have 5 judges selected by SCs and Langdon. Enter to challenge and all entries will be viewable for 3 days (not voted.) After third day, there could be 5 days voting period, and after the voting period only the first 10 will be published on the site as winners.

and why not?

do you have any idea how many hours that is going to take. what if 500 people entered. 5 people have to vote and comment on 500, thats a daunting task dude
03/03/2008 01:31:22 PM · #4
Why not? Do you know anyone that has the time to "judge" 200-300 plus entries at the level at which you'd like them to be judged? Would you will be willing to do that?

Edit - Juliet types faster.

By the way, I take a LOT of time to vote and try to comment a fair amount. It takes me days to get through challenges. Literally.

I think that another problem is with only 5 voters there is going to be a lot of ties. You will need a greater number of voters than 5.

I am for that, Im tired getting voted down because my shot isnt the norm. ;)

To avoid the 200+ load, Langdon can announce the 48 hour challenge thing. We do have 24 hour challenges, this could be...

A-Limited to 200 or less
B-48 hour open or subjected challenge

We could at least try the damn thing and see... or at least have a poll about it.

No thanks. I'd rather keep taking my chances with the community voice that makes DPChallenge the fun place that it is. :-)

Trying to skew votes in your favour are you?

Where is your "improvement" attitude man? com'on... how about just only ONE challenge like that.. no more.

I am not asking we should do every challenge like that, you still can have your DPC spirit 3 times a week ;)

The end all solution for the DPChallenge democracy that it is. :-D Aiiiyiiiyiii...

Make it a Web Site Suggestion and let Langdon & Drew figure it out. :)

I think I understand what you're going for here, but I don't think it's possible. Why would 5 amateur photographers be able to decide better than 200? And if the 5 chosen judges are pros, then they would also have to be pros in the particular field of photography for the challenge (ie nature, portraiture, etc). And even then, the complaints would be louder than usual for the 300+ people who entered a challenge and don't even know how they placed.

Adding an etry limit would mean the best photographers don't compete, just the quickest ones.

Sorry to sound negative, these are just my thoughts that come to mind.

I was going to do that... I just wasn't sure if that would be a "website" suggestion or some other suggestion... We could transfer this thread there, no problem :)

With or without a "poll"... No disrespect, it just seems like many want to "poll" all suggestions are here lately. Kind of funny actually. :-D

Yeah, and absolutely hilarious when they actually do conduct a poll at someone's request.

From Simpson's

"No one believes in polls... I mean 55% of the people says that"

Go Homer ;) or "Homers" in this case

...but apparently not those of not-so-clever DPC voters? I would hazard a guess that the average voter here has a better grasp of photography than the typical viewer of an art gallery or magazine photo, and I'd like to think that everyone is perfectly qualified to judge what they like.

Translation:
"We don't have time to create new codes, no time to do that, we have other things working on... so, new suggestions like that can kiss goodbye for a long time, because it ain't gonna happen.. at least just yet."

I respect that too ;)
