Please note that we've clarified the use of DNG files in the rules. "DNG files are not considered originals unless recorded in that format by the camera."

This is not a rules change since we've always required originals to be "as captured" by your camera, but it has caused some confusion in the past. We understand that this may be an issue for some people who convert to DNG automatically when importing their photos, but a known possibility of modifying the files requires this strict policy.

Awesome. The K10D does DNG capture in-camera, so this is a nice clarification.

Good to have this clarified. I have considered converting all my NEF files to DNG. If I end up doing this I will be sure to save the NEFs for images I might enter into a challenge.

A quick question on a related matter, is a JPG (directly from the camera) considered an original for purposes of validation if I edited the image from the RAW file? If it is I could for instance set my camera to RAW+JPG(small), edit the RAW file and submit the small JPG for validation. Uploading a 15.5MB RAW takes an eternity on the sorry excuse for broadband we have down here.

Yes, that's perfectly legal.

That's good to hear. I usually have the camera set to RAW+JPG just to use the JPGs to select my "keepers" because the RAW files take too long to open.
