Ok, I'll start the thread this week.

I can't believe this is the first challenge to cover sunsets or sunrises.

You have 14 chances at the topic this week; good luck to you!

Missed 3 so far, 11 chances left but with the clouds this time of year, maybe 1 or 2 chances left, if any.

Good luck finding the sun on the east coast this week.

The sun rises at after 8am and sets around 3.30pm - it is dark when I leave for work, and dark when I get home! We get about half a dozen decent sunsets a year here, so suspect I shall be sitting this one out... Looking forward to seeing the photos of those that are able to capture one, though.

yes, definitely not one for me at this time of the year.

"Sun rises 9:16 and sets 15:13. Length of day is 5 h 57 min" And we haven't even got to the shortest day yet! With full cloud cover it barely gets light at all.

I'm that first entry.....it's dark in the morning and dark when I leave.....I snapped that one from the lot here at work.

I agree. The closest I can find is: Sun In Frame

I live in Norway so the days are short here as well - plus it's snowing almost every day leaving the sun hidden. But I'm not complaining. DPC is a site with members from all over the world and no season is the right season for everyone in a sunset/sunrise challenge.

But us northern peeps should all be grateful that our golden hour lasts almost all day this time of year. Also; if the sun is visible during sunset or sunrise we have much longer time to compose a shot than those living further south. And IF the sun shows itself on the weekend we should also be grateful that we can sleep in, do our morning exercises, eat breakfast and THEN go out and shoot some sunrise pictures! Lunch should be served when we're finished.

Everyone else should be jealous - so no more whining! :)

Then we'll be in time for sunset!

I think the key words in your post are: IF the sun is visible... :)

You would have thought that these challenges would have been better timed near one of the Equinoxes, but maybe that's the whole point to keep the number of entries low.

Sounds like fun actually. I wouldn't mind living on the Tundra or anywhere else that goes through this for a year to experience it. I think I wouldn't mind the darkness, for a while at least.

It rises at 7 and sets at 4 here but sunsets in traffic aren't my thing eheh. All the parks close their gates at sunset (they claim vandalism, I claim stupidity) so I can't venture to a place where I can be alone and wait for the right moment so I may sit this out too.

Thanks to the US Naval Observatory. Obvious military applications, but also great resource for photographers.

I'm on business in Sweden at the moment - incidentally in a small place called "Trollhättan" (no kidding!). I brought my camera and have several chances during sunset/rise times but it's been pouring rain since I arrived so I'm crossing my fingers that I'll get a break while I'm here :)

Starbanana: Let me know if you decide to come to Norway and I'll give you some pointers on where to go for pictures.

Here is another cool link for sun rise/set, moon rise/set and tides for most areas. Particularly helpful for you ocean photogs. www.saltwatertides.com It loads quickly on a mobile device.

My son came and got me this morning for a absolutely ribbon winning sunrise. It was the kind with 50% of the sky in clouds and the bottoms were cottony golds and oranges and reds. Between the orange textured fluff were gaps of robin's egg blue sky. It was absolutely breathtaking. However, no good picture could have been taken as the foreground would have simply been the side of my neighbor's house. So instead of running for the camera I just paused and enjoyed it.

in NZ it's summer right now meaning the sun sets at around 8:30pm or so. Means I can be pretty lazy with this one :)

I know just the right place too...

still, i'll get a 5.6.

good luck all.

Crumbs...... It's almost 9.30am here in Finland and we still don't have daylight. This is so tiresome. I hope we can have a sunset/sunrise II challenge in the Spring.
