My gawd, I just noticed these! What an on-topic pair of topics for me, DPC's deafest member! And you know what the pity is? I can't think of anything to shoot, offhand, of my experience with lifelong silence, that would be understood by, and scored well by, the voters-as-a-group. "How," I am asking myself, "can you communicate the experience of a lifetime without sound?"

Hrmmmm....

Plus, I am flying to California for a memorial service for my mother & father, so time will be at a premium. I leave Saturday early, come home Tuesday late...

I think you could come up with something that would amazingly educational for those of us with hearing. You could even consider shooting how you "see sound", for instance.

Have a safe journey and check in with us when you can. Hugs to you and your family.

Well yeah... but that's what I'm saying, I don't know HOW to do that, that's not the kind of photographer I am... I shoot "things", I'm lousy at shooting "concepts". Plus I'm way distracted right now and will be for the entire challenge period :-(

A funeral can be silent.

Robert,

Will you be in my neck of the woods out here in California?

I got and idea...I got an idea! :) I've been in a total photography doldrum lately, but I have an idea. I just need to round up some props. We'll see if I can accomplish it!

I'll be in San Diego, Les. Arriving 5:25 PM Saturday, leaving 7:35 AM Tuesday. I'll be on my own Saturday evening, but family is arriving at noon Sunday, and memorial service is Monday afternoon, so I don't see any free time available in daylight hours, really.

I went their one of their reunion concerts many years ago. That was their finale song. Just them & 48,000 other people singing that song. I don't think I will ever hear so much hissing noise again as I did when everyone sang those three words

If I could go back in time, the first thing I would do is go back and see a Live Simon & Garfunkel concert from when they were in their prime.

The next thing I would do is go make sure the Detroit Red Wings never became an NHL team.

I think we're gonna see a helluva lotta portraits with people holding their fingers to their lips in a "shhhhhh" fashion.

I thought I might re enter my Ansel Adams entry for the Silence challenge. It has been viewed 200 times & not a single comment.

Ditto with mine, I'm amazed. And THIS challenge I have commented on a quarter of the entries thus far myself...

just a thought ..i imagine its harder to come up with something that conveys sound than silence
..wonder if that is because by itself a picture is pretty soundless
