I, alanfreed, hereby suggest Sunday, June 21, 2009, as the 3rd Annual DPC Rickett's Glen GTG and Major Feast!

I thought I'd jumpstart this a bit early this year, mainly because I have already booked weddings for every weekend in May and the beginning of June... and I wanted to see if others would be interested in getting this date on the calendar before something else comes up.

For those of you unfamiliar with our previous get togethers... Rickett's Glen is a beautiful park smack dab in the middle of nowhere in Northeastern PA. What makes it awesome is that there is a trail with a series of 20+ impressive waterfalls. What makes it more awesome is that we have had a really fun time getting to know fellow DPC'ers!

Last year we hiked from the north end of the trail to the south (strategically placing vehicles so we wouldn't have to hike back to the beginning), and then we enjoy a Major Feast in the afternoon.

Anywho... we've had a great time with this in the past, and I thought I'd get the ball rolling to see what kind of interest we could drum up this year.

PS -- Yes, I'll be sure to bring my wife's brownies...

EDITING TO ADD CURRENT INFO:

We'll officially meet on Sunday, June 21, at the Visitor's Center at Rickett's Glen. I will be heading up there on Saturday, and would enjoy meeting any other folks who are planning to arrive in the area a day early. Send me a PM if you'd like to get together on Saturday! Here's a map of the Visitor Center location:

GPS COORDINATES for parking area at Visitor's Center: N41 20.106 W76 18.080

MISC DETAILS

Last year we met at the Visitor's Center at 10:00 (which is what I'm proposing for this year), and we moved a few cars down to the picnic area along Route 118. We started hiking the trail by 11:30, and made it to the picnic area by 3:00. It's pretty much impossible/unrealistic to attempt to keep everyone together for the hike, so I would suggest that we all simply try to meet at the end of the trail at 3:00 to begin the picnic. That worked out well for us last time, giving us enough time to enjoy the hike and waterfalls along the way.

It wouldn't be a GTG without you! (Not to mention I always like to pick your brain... I always learn new tricks from Nikon Nick!)

Rickett's Glen? Whazzat?

I figured you would be using this opportunity to hurry up and call the luxurious Rickett's Glen Hotel to secure Room #2 (only to have it screwed up again).

I will definitely be there. Living in Scranton now, so it's just a short hop over.

The last two years have been a blast! Although it'd be nice it if wasn't quite as hot this time around.

I was wondering when this GTG would be brought up for this year. My wife and I are planning our summer vacation, and now I can rule out June 21st from our plans. Lord willin and the creek don't rise, I'll be there.

Can I come?

I don't know, Jeb. You're kind of a troublemaker. We're gonna have to put it to a vote.
03/04/2009 10:34:36 PM · #20
Well, I'll bring my grille again, some pasta salad, probably some fresh fruit.....

And a hammer in case we'd need to.....break a car window?

Anyone with a moderate degree of car theft skills is more than welcome, of course. I'd still be sitting there in the parking lot since last year had it not been for Jeb.

It has been a LOT of fun the past two years.

Check your worries and your seriousness at the door.....before you leave the house.....8>)
