I've been getting into losing backgrounds recently - isolating subjects in a sea of velvet darkness instead of lines and clutter.

Anyone fancy a side challenge ?

Any shot you like with the a black background - whether it is removed in post processing, or deliberately shot that way.

For example -

How about my shot for the glamour challenge?

Does that count?

I love that style. Have several more that are sort of like that - not quite as dramatic.

I'll have to think about a whole side, though... intriguing...

Fade to black was the idea behind this shot...

...which started my series Out of the Darkness.

I can't commit to a side challenge since I haven't been able to keep with the May Flower Side Challenge, but I plan to continue the Out of the Darkness series and will post more of them here from time to time.

I'm in - although I'll only be able to start when I finish my University finals, T-minus 1 week!

I think I have exactly one (1) sorta fade to black shot in my portfolio, and it's not a complete fade.

Too much of a challenge for me, I'm afraid. Fading to black just isn't busy enough for me! :-) But a nifty idea for a side challenge - have fun with it, folks!

It doesn't have to be BW, does it? Please count me in, it will go well w/the high-ISO side challenge.

I like what you did with this...sounds like a lot of work however. :-)

You know me and dark - most of the comments I used to get was "too dark," so I might need to be in this. The month of June, right? I'm going to CA for a week the 8th through 13th, but I might like to try this. (can I use overlays?) LOL

Here's an example from a previous BW side challenge. :~)

Not really, not if it feels like play, which it does to me. It's all global changes, no spot editing (except for using the eraser on the center part), so it's not even hard on my eyes.

Yep - the month of June.

No rules - no minimum numbers, just fit in what you can, when you can.

I'll have a go, I enjoy low key black and white. Here are couple of my non-portrait examples.

Based on the rule set and the fact I love black backgrounds I'm in. Not to mention I really could use a side challenge right now. They seem to get me back to the camera and remind me why I love photography so much. Here's one I did awhile back for a challenge. (It's still one of my personal favorites)

FANTASTIC. I was just looking at your portfolio and hoping to see you in a side challenge again.

I have not been shooting much lately, because I have been changing customers, and just too busy to enjoy looking through the lens lately. I may pop in once in a while with a shot if I run across something that lends itself to the "fade to black" treatment. Here's an older sample.
