I entered a photo into free study, and meant to withdraw my submission before voting time but didn't!
June snuk(sneaked?) up on me!

I so want to withdraw, hate having this photo judged and rated - degraded to a number.

I felt the same way about some of my recent submissions. Then I try to remind myself that the score that other people leave on my photo shouldnt matter to me, so I end up leaving it in, just to get some comments and feedback.

Otherwise, you are able to self DQ. Not sure exactly about the process, but I think i just involves sending a message to SC. As long as you dont have any other self DQs, or otherwise in your last 25 submissions, it should be ok. (again, I am just guessing here... not sure about the exact protocol).

On a side note, I just checked out your portfolio.... you have some amazing portraits in there. You have a very distinctive style. And, your from Ontario... GO CANADA!!! :)

Edit:

Here is another thread about self DQ, not that I would suggest that necessarily.

I looked at your portfolio. You are very good. No matter what score you get during the competition, it doesn't matter. Ignore the number. You have talent.

You and I can start a club! I have a photo in unusual objects that is getting pounded--and it's one of my all time favorites. It's extremely painful watching it go down, and down, and down.

But really, it's good practice--tell yourself that it's a great photo that just doesn't have wide appeal. I've gotten one 10 amidst my myriads of 4s. so I'm telling myself that the people who are going to appreciate it will really appreciate it. Just because a photo doesn't please everyone doesn't mean that it's not an incredible photo. I don't like Annie Leibovitz and many people don't like Picasso. Leave it in, don't get upset, and perhaps post it for comments afterward if you really want to know why it didn't do well. (I'll be doing that for my shot!)

good luck in whatever you decide!

My unusual objects shot is going down in flames too - may even go sub-4 (probably would if people were not being charitable).
Despair not, simplesilent, my lowest scoring shot (3.8136) picked up a favorite. Not every photograph is for everyone. A low score may very well mean that a shot just did not connect with the majority of voters - one here (and I don't remember the challenge) got the brown in its challenge. After someone suggested to look at it closely, it was one of the coolest shots I've seen on the site - it just didn't pass the 5 second glance test.
Your work is very nice. If it pleases you, that is what counts (unless you're trying to make a living at photography, in which case you probably wouldn't be shooting to please yourself anyway).

I don't let the votes get me.
Actually usually when I enter a challenge it's to see if voters will surprise me, by voting differently than they usually do. No surprises yet.

Its just this one photo that's kind of sentimental.
I didn't even feel I wanted to give people a chance to 5 second glance it, not this one.

If you want to Self DQ, go for it, no need to have your favourite photo trashed by others, if you don't want it to. But if you are going to do it, I recommend making the request already today, it may take the SC a day or two to get caught up with their huge pile of e-mails and things. In the meanwhile, you never know, maybe it will go up?
