If you'd like to see matting as an option on DPCPrints, now is the time to speak up! Specifically, would you matte and/or frame your prints with DPCPrints? Would you recommend this service to your customers? We're looking for a potential volume estimation, so please use numbers if at all applicable.

Thanks!

If the price were competitive, i would have virtually every print i ordered matted. I would also recommend it to anyone who wanted to buy my prints (a rather unfortunately small list at this point). In fact i was a little surprised that you started offering frames without mattes. I never frame anything without a matte.

I would love that. I think that all of my prints should be matted, and making that an option on DPCPrints would make it very easy. I know that I would never print anywhere else. Make it so, number one. lol. mark me down as a "yes"

I would probably matte every print ordered, and would have recommendations for clients. Frames are nice, but bulkier to ship.
Numbers for me are difficult to estimate, but my sales recently have been up. :)

imo there's little reason for selling frames without matting. i think this would be a great oppurtunity for dpcprints and if i liked what i saw after my first purchase i would definitely come back for more

I've only bought two prints (not my own) from DPCPrints so far and if matting was an option I would've most definetly used it. I've yet to upload any of my own to print for myself, but when I do, if it was cost effective, any prints I ordered would be matted. I think most customers would really use that option if it were available, maybe more so then the frames, but that's just my opinion.

Keep up the great work guys!

How is shipping the matted prints going to effect the cost of shipping?

I would order every single print matted, and probably more framed as well if matting were offered. I agree with Achiral that there is probably little demand for frames without matting. At this point I would unlikely order a framed but not matted photo, but would definately order a matted photo, and probably framed as well, if matting were an option.

Matte-ing is a must! I matte all my 8x10 and larger prints.

Add another vote for matting at a reasonable price.

Never used dpc prints (never printed a pic) but feel the time is coming, and I agree that if you offer frames then matting is a must.

I'll throw in another vote for matting prints, for sure! Also, the really killer-feature, IMHO, would be if the matting could help accomodate the awkward aspect ratios for some prints. In particular, full-frame photos come in 8x12, for which there are no frames. I tend to wrap those prints in my own "photoshop matte", so I can keep the whole picture, but offer it in the much more popular (and frameable) 8x10 format.

If the matting allowed for more flexibility in the packaging, I would order all my prints from DPCPrints!!

I'd definitely order plain white matting on most, if not all, of the prints that I buy (and I buy quite a few lately...), unless I already have a mat on hand that's a specific color for a specific print. I think it would be a great option as long as it is affordable. I would DEFINITELY recommend it to my customers, too.

I would if the price were right! Would pricing for members be competitive with AmericanFrame considering quality of course as a factor.

Then of course, there's matting for selling prints to customers. That's very important.

Another yes; please add it!

The absence of matting is the one thing preventing me from 'marketing' my prints, making more available and buying other photographers' work. This would be a very positive step.

I would say yes to matting, since I can't do it myself and I don't ruin pictures by doing it. : )

Matting is a definate yes. Matting re-enforces the "professional" feel of prints purchased from DPC Prints.

Assuminc competitive pricing, virually every print I order would be ordered matted. I am looking to order some prints for my apartment, and one of the reasons I've been putting it off is to see when and iff matting will be offered.

I think matting will also go a long way to increase the credibility of the site and turn visitors into buyers. Matting of a print suggests a high level of quality in the print itself.

If the pricing were good enough, I might also order matted prints of my own work to sell locally.

Very good point (I might have a print to sell one day). I'm sure it is great to sell a print but the buyer would have to go out and source matting/framing. This would be a big selling point.

btw, not having used dpc prints (yet) can the purchaser post the print to another address?

Yes they can! I recently ordered a print as a gift for a friend in Iowa, and had it shipped directly to her.

Matting? Si!
06/03/2004 06:18:22 PM · #25
When offering frames, I think matting is the bare minimum. Double-matting would be quality icing on the cake.
