    Eleven
    by connie

This tutorial is on "Eleven" and is a very simple set up shot. Simple works just as well as the complex in my opinion. All you need is a little creativity and imagination.

    The set up for Eleven:

  • 1 Large black cloth
  • 1 Clamp on light
  • Eggs
  • 1 Tripod
  • Camera set in black & white mode

I clamped the light on to a chair level with the eggs to side light them. A 60 watt bulb was the main light source used and about 12-14 inches away from the eggs. No flash used on this image.

I was trying to emphasize the front egg and it's curve with nicely place eggs and shadows in the back.

  • Aperture f.9.4
  • Shutter 1/125
  • ISO setting of 100
  • 2048 X 1536 fine mode.
  • Macro
  • Set up time: 10 minutes
  • Number of exposures: about 15

    Resized and Sharpened in ACDSee.

I actually had two choices for the curves challenge. The one below was going to be my first choice but I thought there would be other "pasta" photos so I went with "Eleven".

For this shot I placed a furnace filter (that's right a 16x20x1 furnace filter) across 2 chairs and put a clamp on light under the filter about 10 inches away. A 75 watt bulb was used. I then placed the noodles on the filter and used the white balance meter on the camera. This highlighted the noodles just right with the light flowing upwards.

This is another reason I love this site, give me a challenge and if I don't have something I need... creativity kicks in... lol

  • ISO 100
  • Aperture 9.4
  • Shutter1/25

This was the final picture I submitted and then unsubmitted in the curves challenge:
