    "more ice goofball"
    by vin rigby

    Set-up:

Piano stool with black vinyl top, cold tea, and whiskey glass, ice cubes, JD bottle, dark blue sheet draped over a clotheshorse.

The lighting set-up included an off the camera main light on stand, at about 45% to the left of the subject, placed so that the dark backdrop was shielded to keep it as dark as possible.

Because I was shooting in a day lit conservatory I set the camera to its highest shutter speed of 1/640th sec and aperture f11 which was the highest it would go in manual to keep the backdrop as black as possible and allow the flash only to light the subject.

With camera set on tripod and manual focus set, ice cubes were then held above the glass just out of shot and dropped in an attempt to hit the ‘target’ while simultaneously operating the shutter. See the misses below.

A lot of mopping up was involved in this challenge!

I must remember next time to make the tea with leaf tea and filter it to get rid of the cloudiness that one or two scrutineers noticed, proper JD would have been sparklingly clear.

    My choice: movement not stopped
