Yup. This is Moriarty.

Anyone who thinks that it's easy to photograph a cat should borrow Moriarty for a day. He's not quite a year old and does not know how to stay still, stay where's he's put, or stay off of things he's supposed to stay off of. (yes, I know I ended a sentence with a preposition, but you'll just have to ignore it this time!)

One of my all-time favorite shots was this one: . A totally unplanned shot. I was just trying to shoot the apple, nothing else!! I got this shot off, and then my second favorite shot happened:

again, by accident.

It was that second shot that I was trying to reproduce.

That didn't happen. I couldn't get moriarty to walk behind the pear!! I called for my wonderful husband who brought the laser pointer, and even though mo followed the pointer, I still couldn't get the shot. Then Jeff started playing around the pear with the pointer. Excellent idea!! I had set up very directional lighting, so that he would mostly blend in, and this face kept appearing out of the shadows.

I took 52 shots, but only had two possibilities. I spent all my time on the entry, but it would have been fun to follow this one through to the end to see what it looked like with the whole left side brought down quite a bit.

But it probably would have only been interesting if the whole left side was completely obscured.

Thanks for the comments and the nice votes! I'm glad that people noticed the eyes -- that's what's so interesting about moriarty -- he really does have orange eyes! They're quite bizarre. :)

Congratulations on the ribbon! Awesome play with lighting. A good shot rich with story of a cat staring over a pear. Could this pear be eaten, is this pear fresh:)? That's what I saw in this great capture. Well done!

Love the black cat in the back... hard to see, which is a great way to express the palindrome. Not sure what the pear has to do with the picture, but it's an interesting add.
