Challenge: Emergency! (Expert Editing)
Camera: Pentax K-5
Lens: Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC for Pentax
Location: Snellville, GA USA
Date: Apr 19, 2012
Date Uploaded: Apr 19, 2012

Not really where I could get firetrucks or police cars, so had to stage my own emergency. Fortunately this was expert editing.

This is a bakers sheet of water (the kind of pan you make biscuits or cookies on). Used a snooted flash off camera set my focus and then blew across the water to make the waves. I next setup a white backdrop and held my hand up, firing the camera with a remote. I dipped my hand in water each time to make sure it had the look of wetness as it emerged from the water.

I then combined the images, draganized the photo and ran through Topaz B&W effects to get the blue color I wanted.

Hope it does well, since I'm posting all this info, I'm bound to look stupid after the fact. :)

5 minutes to rollover and only 35 entries... I could easily brown this one!!!

In the off chance anyone cares after the voting is over... here is the pan I used. I carried it to my studio with a container of water and slowly poured it into the pan. I had to level it because my shooting table is not level. :)

As I was taking the shot, I would line up the shot, then move my face to the side of the camera and blow across the water. This was the shot I used...

After scooping out all the water from the pan so I could move the pan (what a chore that was!) I took several shots of my hand in various poses... after dipping in the reclaimed water as stated above.

This is the shot I used for that...

Then it was a matter of removing the hand from the white/grey background and sizing and combining everything just right. I'm amazed at how a little scaling works wonders. I could only do this in Expert Editing of course. But blowing up the water shot and reducing the hand a bit made it look like the person was really under a choppy ocean/lake. IMO anyway.

It's been holding a 6.2ish most of the time after a high of 6.5.

One more day to go.

POST CHALLENGE...

Oh well... foolish me thought I had a top 5 image at the very least. I said I'd look stupid sharing all the details for a mediocre image.

I got that right.

About this line: "..I'd look stupid sharing all the details for a mediocre image. "

That is nonsense!
6.28 is a very good score. The shot is great (had a 7 from me).

I thank you for posting the set-up. I'm sure most, if not all, of us love reading/seeing how something was done and this is no exception.

I thank you for the trouble and I enjoyed reading about it.

Maybe a bit more highlight on the hand, my eyes get drown to the foreground bright spots.

I understand what you are going for here but it just doesn't work for me. I think it may be because it is too cropped.

There is something wrong with the hand and I can't figure out what it is. It is distracting me from really giving a 10. After staring at this for five minutes (and getting the blue cast out of my retinas), I figured it out. The blue is over driven which gives the palm of the hand a spotty appearance and makes the fingers look like sausages. Plus the skin folds in the fingers look distorted and in one case, gone entirely. Still, I like it so a 9 it is.
