I hope to do an image like this before the 30 days are up. I'm sure I'll f*** it up somehow. |

Thanks for the comments. My plan is to build throughout the 30 so I'm starring with 1 strobe. Then building by adding reflectors and more strobes and modifiers.
I have 2 speed lights, 2 studio strobes, 1 1000 watt video light, 3 reflectors, then there is fairy lights torches candles etc :)
Dead space was purely accidental from spinning camera rd to look, I'll shoot the rest tethered makes it easier,
Tonight I'll add 2 reflectors into the mix |

Reminds me of a poster - The black space on the left is reserved for your opponent in the ultimate fighting championship. :) |

Without beating a dead horse, I have to agree with everyone else assessment of the negative space. |

I'm going to echo what Lydia and Joshua have said, while it is striking and moody it feels a bit unbalanced, too much -ve space on the shadow side of the image, I'd have liked to see it with the -ve space on the right where the light is coming from.
ETA: On revisiting this shot I almost got a feeling of you being smeared into the darkness on the left, it actually works well for me when I view it in that way. ;)

I agree...
Lovely photo... want a bit off the left and a catchlight in the eye.
Lovely.

I like this. Dark and moody and you controlled the light nicely. My nitpicks are while I like the negative space it feels off balance, perhaps a square crop with you centered? I think this may be one of those shots that looks well centered. I also would like just a bit more light in the eye but with the mood I'm not real sure that is necessary. Great first shot, look forward to seeing more. |
