Dream Lake Spring. Glorious at the alpine lake on May 3, 2012. This image captured at 11:26 AM. Pretty rare to have becalmed winds at Dream Lake.

3 images blended in HDR Efex. Also, use of 0.6 and 0.9 soft grad ND filters.

The 800 pixel constraint is a big disadvantage for a detailed landscape image. In my pre-vote opinion, this will not do well because it looks "cluttered" at the postage stamp size.

Better size here.

Pleasant experience to watch the votes on this one. So far, a high of 7.1500 on the first day of voting. There are some dandy other landscape images in this challenge and a host of dreadful images. I think the ribboning images will need to be above 7. But, there will be some very low scores on the low end.

[May. 10th, 2012 07:42:04 AM]

In response to the fair criticism about the rocks cluttering the foreground and obscuring the reflection in the water. I've done this shot with just mirror lake and no rocks. Sometimes, a mirror reflection can become a distraction. I've found it more effective to use those foreground rocks to "ground" the scene and provide a 3 dimensional illusion. I also think the rocks and shorelines lead the viewer into the scene and help focus the viewer's attention on the peaks and sky.

Also, this is an HDR blend of images. I wanted to show an image which looks just like what I saw with my eyes. This is very natural looking in my opinion. HDR can look natural.

Congratulations Richard. This is a wonderful landscape and you captured it very well. I like the large size with the dark background. The beauty of the image is more easy to appreciate in that context. Also congrats on the front page of the Estes Park News.

"Serenity now! Serenity now!"
"What is that?"
"The doctor gave me a relaxation cassette. When my blood pressure gets too high, the man on the tape tells me to say 'serenity now!'"
"Are you supposed to yell it?"
"The man on the tape wasn't specific."

This is amazing! It is my favorite. It doesn't seem to be a standard reflection photo, but the reflection off the water really is doing a lot to pull everything together. I like the steely colors that seem so appropriate to the snowy scene. Great job!

I think I know who's this is... very nice shot. I only wish there were less rocks in the foreground, personally. They muddy what would be a great reflection and get a bit lost in the snow's reflection. That's my only criticism. Otherwise quite nice.
