I was in desperate need of doing something off the wall. This is it. I'm pretty pleased with the result, because after all, I used myEpson scanner to take this image. I was inspired by this series. After my efforts, I am impressed more than ever by the results of those scanning pioneers. Amazing what you can use to create an image.

Oh gosh, my first fish!!!! (Thanks B!!!!) AND a Verineat award!!! (Thank you, Anita!!) I was delighted with the comments, as they were exactly what I'd hoped for. I knew I was creating an image that would not resonate with everyone, but I felt like I was "creating" and that's what matters most.

Alas, I had a suspicion that it might come to this. I hope I get to keep my fish...

Ok... I just realized that almost 6 years ago this was one of my picks in the "Pick your fav image from the person above you" side challenge. This week I had the realization that "picking a favorite" should include a comment about why. So I've gone back over the last 1600+ posts to make amends for my omissions. Here's my belated comment:

First off - DQ or not, it's a wonderful image. I love the mystery and the color palette (I'm going to have to check out the on1 preset - if it's in there recent versions). The composition is also strong - how you did that on a scanner is amazing! Anyway, I remember liking this one immediately. The composite parts are at once intriguingly vague and emotionally present. Wow.

Finally, it holds up well to time. This exercise of mine (returning to view an image after several years) confirms my appreciation of your photo. Sorry it took so long to realize I was missing an important part of this SC!

Really cool, beautiful work. Bummer about the DQ, but it doesn't take away from it being a fantastic creation, Johanna. :)

Eh. Well, bummer about the lack of EXIF, but I'll assume you were within the constraints otherwise.
A very cool capture, much appreciated.

Great image Johanna, one always pays more attention when the ice cracks, maybe you've found a niche market with the scanner sensor camera that records EXIF and an interchangeable flatbed lens?

So now you must figure how to get a scanner that records exif. :-) Still an awesome image and an interesting new angle to your creativity!

Amazing idea! It was predictable that it couldn't score very high, but still I don't understand why voters can be so narrow minded. This is a beautiful image. And thanks for sharing this technique, i never heard about it.

One of the more interesting and usual images. Thanks for the info on how it was done. I kept thinking a psych ward... certainly it came across to me as "empty". Nice work.

I can only imagine the comments. Alone, or married, it appears to be the same for you.

I'm thinking I am addressing this far too literally but is this supposed to be a dead bride? why else the veil, or is it ecstasy and not death? or maybe its supposed to be self-interpreted. Kind of gave me chills thinking about the creepiness of it.

Wonderful image, the little stars take the hostile edge of this a bit, brilliantly processed, hope it does well.

I am pretty sure this won't get the high score it deserves, but I really like it. Great job.
