Louis Mendes, a somewhat famous street photographer often found on the streets of New York City - and always with his Speed Graphic camera - happened to walk by me on a business trip to the city a couple of weeks ago.

The most interesting part of this image, to me, is that I had no idea who this individual was, before his name was mentioned by someone viewing my shot. This led to quite a revelation on my part, and certainly increased the value of the image to me.

I made this shot while on the phone with my mother-in-law, wishing her a Happy Mother's Day. (Hence the very strange settings for blatant daylight) It was 80% luck, 20% skill, but I'm very happy with it.

Processing and conversion completed in LR3, primarily consisting of sharpening.

Added: Found his facebook page and I see he shared this pic of himself after you put it on Flickr. I'd take that as a win!

Thanks for checking it out, Spiff, and as far as the re-share goes, it certainly made my day!

I'm pretty happy with this result! No 1s, 2s or 3s, and almost a new PB. Not to mention landing right between Neil and tanguera...that's a good deal.

Many thanks to those of you taking the time to comment. I haven't had much opportunity for voting and really participating at DPC lately; knowing I can count on certain folks here to always be there with constructive criticism, or simply a compliment, is a great thing.

Except for a couple of minor modern elements, this could be a scene from 60 years ago. Nicely captured.
