Black bear boar, adult. Face-to-face encounter.

Front page, above the fold of the 06/08/12 Estes Park News.

However, by the score, not popular at DPC.

I'm a little surprised this image is not being interpreted as meeting the challenge. Huh? I'm guessing that for some city dwellers, they needed an alley or road or urban setting to relate to. Bears on the trail are meaningless to some, evidently.

Sure. Let's say you are hiking on a trail in the woods. You encounter this big fella. It is a dead-end road for you. Seems obvious to me. It met the challenge well.

I gave it a 6, thought it met the challenge fine - probably beause I've come accross many bears myself and thought maybe it was the end once or twice. :)

Nice size boar, pretty color too.

I'll give you some feedback. I did not vote this high. I did get the "dead end" bit, but thought the picture was much more on the "documentary" side than the "artistic" side. The tree jutting in on the left; the tree at the top; the shadows acros the bears face; the stripe of shadow across the bottom; the fact he's not looking at the camera, all things you are obviously not thinking about when you are just trying to capture a picture of a wild bear, but still detrimental to the photo nonetheless.

Great shot of bear but not sure what it has to do with the end of the road.
