Traveling Man statue in Deep Ellum, Dallas, Texas.
Post:
I was in Dallas on a business trip last week and Yo_Spiff was kind enough to meet me one evening and show me some photo opps around town. I had not intended to enter the Ray Bradbury challenge because my company laptop only has Microsoft Office Photo Editor software (very basic editing capabilities). But Steve had shown me these cool "Traveling Man" statues, so it seemed a shame not to enter. I thought that I would download my photos into the Microsoft software, compress the file, and just enter an image straight from the camera.
About the time that I got back into the hotel, I realized that I had not packed a download patch cord with me since I had not planned to download any photos while I was in Dallas. Got to my room, started digging around in my laptop bag and voila! I found a patch cord for a company Canon camera that fits my Nikon. One problem down.
A bit later I realized that I had shot everything in RAW only and my work computer does not recognize RAW files. DOH!
I then remembered that if I apply any in-camera changes to a photo, it saves the modified file as a .jpg copy. I thought that I would make a light exposure change or maybe apply a filter setting to one of the RAW files. Started looking through the touch-up menu and lo and behold - my D7000 has a built-in RAW file processor. It lets you change the white balance, file size, apply different jpg picture styles, exposure compensation, lighten shadows, etc. 2nd problem solved!
So I converted the last photo I took of the sitting man from RAW to jpg in-camera. I then uploaded it to Microsoft Office Photo Editor and changed the pixel size to DPC limits and cropped slightly.
I just thought it was amazing that I was able to edit and enter the photo dispite the total lack of planning on my part.
Thanks again to Steve for the wonderful hospitality. |

One of my favorites & would have scored higher if the metro area had been cropped. Great shot. |

While I like the colors on your subject, I can't help but to feel like this is almost snapshot of art. Maybe there is more to this, which is why I'm not making the connection. |
