Thanks everyone for the votes and comments.

I've been debating for awhile now if I should buy an underwater housing for my camera. I'm still on the fence so decided to get a cheaper housing for my point and shoot to see how I'd like shooting in the waves. I'm still on the fence.

This picture was taken at Sandy Beach on the southeast side of the island. This beach has the notoriety of having the highest rate of neck injuries in the nation. It's a heavy shorebreak that breaks in inches of water. I've surfed here for a good 35 years with my share of broken bones and some pretty serious scars.

On this morning, I was in the water for about 3 hours and got totally pummeled. You need to stay right in the impact zone knowing you're going to get pounded to get a shot. Out of a couple hundred shots, this is one of about a dozen that you can actually see something recognizable. Here's an outtake that I was considering using.

I was worried that people wouldn't find my entry abstract in any way but I'm glad the majority did.

Thanks again.

Congrats on the HM. Awesome capture. If you can do that with your p&s maybe you don't need to get a housing for your DSLR.

Waterproof camera, I hope. Unique image. I like how all the smooth textures of the ocean end in the hard edges of the water.

Wow! Wish I'd have taken this one. Really like the "sculpture" of the wave and the golden colors.

Nice movement. Combined with the interesting swirl and exceptional lighting make this quite interesting.
