...my nephews first lightning bug quest, he had never seen them before. We put so many in the old mayo jar we quit counting. We of course released the bugs later that evening. During this time of year the woods start to shimmer as the sun begins to set due to all the firefly activity.

Here in the Smoky Mountains there are 18 different kinds of lightning bugs to be found...some that blink in unison and another variety called the Blue Ghost firefly that burn a slow blue glow instead of the yellow green flash.

Love the info behind the image and it must be quite easy catching the bugs - there are soo many :)

Am drawn to the colour here, a sort of retro hue from early film days.

WOW 18 different kinds!! How fun. I remember a story about my aunt when she was little. A lightning bug died with her light on, so she just glued her to the ceiling of her doll house. LOL Thanks for a bit of magic with an atmosphere of flickering lights.

Reminds me of an antique photo that's been converted to color. I like this effect. Nicely done!

Reminds me of those Victorian pictures of fairies in the woods.

How cool! We don't have any lightning bugs here - pity. I like the ghost effect of your nephew's movements.

This is a special moment captured well. My son lives in Pigeon Forge, and has photos in the Knox paper "Viewer's Eye" section once in a while. He wants me to come up to see the fireflies. Thanks for the reminder.

So that's what all the little yellow dots are! Fireflies! What an experience, the introduce a child to such a delight, & to watch them enjoy it. I'm in Alabama, we have them here, it's like magic. Love it!
