Challenge: The Feel Good (Advanced Editing VII)

I have the utmost respect for anyone that does cat photography. I've tried cat photography for a couple of different challenges now, and challenge is definitely an appropriate word!! They will not stay where you put them, they will not do what you want them to do. They are the most uncooperative subjects that I've ever worked with!

I actually was trying to get my black cat on this one, and ended up with Cinders, instead.

This is real -- it's not baited. She really was smelling the flowers. She likes to eat grass, so the byproduct is that she also has a tendency to eat my flowers. When I get roses from my husband, I wake up in the morning and they've all be decapitated. (she doesn't eat any part of those, she just chews through the stem and decapitates them.)

I know that many people didn't think this was a typical "feed good" photo, but I kept thinking of the book Life Smiles Back

So I wanted to do something that might make people smile, and this is what came to mind.

I did it on the last day, and was running out of time and energy. I actually like this shot much better

But even though it made me smile much more, I had the "smell the flowers" in my mind, so I went with this one. If I had an extra day, I probably would have changed my mind and entered the other one. :

Almost every day when I left for school, my mom would say "don't forget to smell the flowers!"

you made the right call on choosing this one.
the other one is cute with the cat peeking at the flowers, but it's not nearly as "feel good"

this was one of my top picks and got a 10, the black cat would've likely got a 6 or 7 from me due to not being as 'feel good'-y.

Nice job on this one, the cat is sufficiently focused, yet fluffy and soft looking, the table is great and the flowers stand out great apart from the rest. :)

Cute idea, well done. Paws are a little bright but nice light otherwise. Voted earlier.

One of my favorite type of newspaper assignments is to capture "wild art", which is defined as "Stand-Alone, Feature Shot, Enterprise art are found moments that are intended to be realistic slices of everyday life" (definition taken from this glossary). These are typically images that caption themselves, not needing a lot of words to get their point across. For this challenge, I'm scoring images as whether I'd like to see them on the front page of a paper as feel good wild art. If I don't think they would make the paper, I'm then asking myself, "does it make me feel good?" If it doesn't do much for me, well then, oh well...

This is a nice shot, but not really moving my "feel good" needle. It feels more like still art than real life. Nicely done, but not very emotive.
