This is one of my favourite desserts. It goes under several different names, but it is known as Vermicelle in Switzerland where I know it from.

I hope there are not too many dessert challenges ahead - my wasteline wouldn't be able to stand it ;-)

The inspiration for the BG came from this image - thank you h2 :-)

Doing the "happy dance" this morning. My first TT finish :-)
Thank you to all for your comments.
After I had entered, I sent the pic to my dad to see and he came back saying he doesn't like it, reminds him of something his dog may leave behind! Of course from then on, all I could see was *that*! I notice some of you thought the same ;-).
For the record, it is actually chestnut purree - really, really, nice :-)

Ok... I so incredibly sorry, the middle layer may taste incredible, but really reminds me of something else...

However, I like the lighting, the light on the background and the point of view. I think the flower detracts from the photo, but only a slight amount. -7-

I like the background spotlight that gives a halo to your subject. I feel like the whole image has a little too much brown, though. The flower is a nice tough and is well-placed, although I feel it should be a brighter yellow. It feels like you left too much room all around the edges, especially on the left side and bottom.

I love the colors and the balance. I wish the yellows were a little brighter though.

This is a tough challenge to vote. I'm torn between "what are you trying to do here" and "what do I expect here". Further complicating matters is the question "what would I do here".

What I would expect would be a technically strong piece of eye-candy that would present the dessert in a way that I would want to at least sample it, if not order it. Along these lines I'm looking at technicals: backgrounds, distracting elements, exposure, sharpness. I'm also looking for creativity, imagination, and originality, which can make up for less than perfect technicals.

So, where does this leave me with your image?

This is beautiful; expertly envisioned and executed, this should do very well in the challenge. The exposure is simply perfect. If you'd put ten similar shots into a portfolio, you could probably pick up some nice (paying) work from just about any pastry shop that wants to be competitive.
