This is my dad. He came out to visit us for the first time in nine years and the second time ever. I knew he would be a good model for this challenge and I have been wanting to get some good pics of him. I started off with getting some serious straight shots. Had him look directly at the camera and told him to not smile. Took a couple of shots and then with the camera still at my eye I began to make a farting noise with my mouth that always gets the kids laughing. He just stared at me stone faced. No reaction. With the camera still at my eye I said "so no laughing huh? The fart noise always makes the kids die" and then he let loose. He was trying to stay straight and when I gave him permission to go the other way he went. The series is images all around this, while not high scoring spc images, are tons of fun.

My dad has an amazing laugh. Loud and very recognizable. And I wanted to catch a picture of him that made you hear it pour out of the monitor. I hoped that this one pulled it off. 6.7 three hours becore rollover and some great comments (though one round of sharpening at a very low setting) makes me think I did that well.

And I have some awesome pics of my dad visiting me.

So when I edited the details I didnt realize that I had a couple of days left. Thought rollover was last night but it was baby animal day. So i thought adding a story about my dads laugh might be in order.

Back when I was fourteen, my dad and I decided to make a canoe and camping trip through the chain of lakes in Old Forge, NY. It was going to be a four day trip with overnights on an island in fourth lake and in a lean to on the shore of eighth lake. So on the first day we canoe up to fourth lake to make our camp. Mind you, the island on fourth lake is tiny and this chain of lakes is really out there in nowhere land. Old Forge doesn't have a massive population. As we are getting out of the canoe I crack some joke and my dad starts laughing. Out of the woods we hear "Mike? Mike Toole?" This lady comes out of the woods and says "I would recoginize that laugh anywhere." The really odd thing is that she hadn't seen my dad in almost 20 years. 20 YEARS!!! So on an island, in the middle of nowhere, decades out, my dads laugh was recognized.

I love my dads laugh. I love my dad.

I forgot to add this the other day, Do you ever watch AMC's breaking bad?? Your Dad sooo reminds me of Walt the star.. ( Yeah I don't know what his real name is but he was Malcom in the Middles dad too) My hubby loves that show and he saw me looking at this the other day and thought some one had actually shot a picture of that tv star...

great shot, and a great essay. The light is a teeny bit too harsh, but that's hairsplitting. Congrats, Tim, this is the photo (and I assume, the series) to keep.

B&W tones are fabulous! Great smiling laugh - it makes me wonder what was so funny to make him crack up with laughter. Wonderful capture of emotion that I am sure will be a treasure in the family album:-) Hope to see this in the top 5.
