Thanks for all the great comments, I don't think I have received so many in quite awhile and I really appreciate all of them :)

I got a few requests for editing steps. I will even post the original photos once the challenge ends so you can get a better idea of how I achieved this photo. It took me awhile to wrap my head around this. I started the edit wed night and had to sleep on it and start fresh the next day. Even then I was frustrated at first, I had to walk away from it for about an hour and come back with a new mindset. Finally changing out bo peep with a different pose and cropping it in closer made all the difference and I got to work. Here is what I did basically it is like baking a cake get all the ingredients and blend them together:

This image was made up of 7 different photos.
#1 landcape
#2 bo peep in studio holding up a white sheet
#3,4,5 sheep
#6 sunflowers
#7 foreground grass

I started with the landscape:

I added the studio shot of bo peep over the top of the landscape and sort of did a rough mask over parts just so I could get her placement right,
Here is my studio shot of bo-peep:

once I got a good placement of bo peep, I did a detailed mask of the sheet and floor. slowly masking over the sheet until just enough of the background showed through. It took several different edits I think 10 in all to get just the right amount of sheet and background ratio.

It took awhile to place the sheep just right so you could see enough of them but not too much. Here is one of the sheep I used:

Then came the foreground first I placed a strip of grass from the same landscape over the top of bo peep. The focal point was on the foreground grass so it helped with perspective. I then carefully masked around individual blades of grass to partially cover her shoes and dress. I still thought she needed more cover to settle her into the photo so I added the shots of the sunflowers. Plus I like the contrast of yellow and blue I always think blue and yellow together make a pleasing country feel to an image.

Sunflowers the final touch:

Once it was all together the way I wanted it I applied some filters to bring out the detail in bo peep the sheep and the clouds. Then I added shadows by burning to add the final touch to things.

Really all in all not a complicated edit. Once I got my head wrapped around it:)

Original photos to come soon, I can't post them until after roll over so I will try to get them up as soon as I can.

[Aug. 30th, 2012 09:00:53 AM]

Last day until roll over and I am keeping my fingers crossed that my score will hold for a personal best. THANKS SHEZ FOR THE BLUE I REALLY WAS EXCITED ABOUT THAT. and all the other great comments as well.

I got a few comments on the veil, and wanted to say a bit more about that. Veils of this sort play a big part of what I believe in religiously. So I suppose coming up with an image like this was not a stretch. Sometimes I wonder what we as humans could see if we just had the ability to lift the veil in our own lives, I think we would be amazed at the people and things all around us everyday that influence us and guide us through this life.

Congrats on the red and PB. :) I do very much love the creativity here. Very outside the box. LOVE it!! I do agree with one comment below on the lighting. The lighting of Bo Peep and the rest of the photo is a bit off. I also figured it was the studio lights. But other than that, stellar idea!

Fabulous, as Lydia would say :) I love the fresh feel of this creation, the fit with the rhyme, and the symbolism that takes it beyond a child's tale - so fitting for a nursery rhyme challenge since many many of those old rhymes had double meanings. Congratulations on the ribbon and the PB, Jenn.

Wonderful creativity.

I think the lighting on lil' bo peep is a little too "studio" for the natural setting, but I could easily still see this with a ribbon. I wouldn't mind seeing this on the front page for a week.

Voted earlier coming back to comment.

Very clever presentation of the nursery rhyme! It is like she is on stage and lifting the curtain to show us where the sheep are hiding. Photo composition is well done and processing is spot on. The mood is bright, cheerful, and playful. I can easily see this being in the top ten. You get high marks for great effort and presentation:-)
